Frequently Asked Questions

Here's what we usually get asked

So how is this different to regular physiotherapy?

Once we are confident in our assessment and diagnosis. The focus turns to do actually doing the work required to rebuild you after your injury. This focus is normally based on corrective exercise and strength building. We take out the need for further individual appointments and the need for you to do things at home (for the most part).

What's unique about this approach?

The focus is on regular and frequent rehab sessions in a 2:1 setting. These sessions are generally programmed 2 x p. week at a time that suits you and are 45 minutes in duration. This allows us to give you 3 x the amount of time with your physio for the same cost. It also takes the pressure off you needing to do anything in your own time.

How do I know if this will work for me?

We find this solution works for the majority of injuries. But don't worry by filling out the above survey - our Director Tom will be able to chat to you directly about whether or not it is a good fit for you and your situation.

What if I have little or no experience with exercise?

Not to worry! Our expert physios are experienced working with people of all skill/experience levels. The beauty of 2:1 ultra small group rehab means you will get extremely high levels of help and supervision.

Where is Physio on Patterson Located?

We are located in Bentleigh - On the corner of Patterson Road and Railway Crescent - Right across from the Patterson Train Station. (70 Railway Crescent, Bentleigh 3204)

What assessments are used and included?

We use state of the art technology to perform strength testing - these include handheld strength testers and force plates (Think of fancy scales attached to an app) which allow us to measure your baseline function accurately. We have compiled previous data from numerous tests and studies and can give you normative feedback. Ie where do your results sit compared to others of a similar demographic (age/sex).

We also use digital goniometry which allows us to give you precise range of motion assessment which can often be a key metric we can reassess down the track.

We also perform all regular traditional physiotherapy based assessment to compliment the hard data we have from the tech based assessment.

In some cases, we may also ask you to fill out a self reported questionnaire on your current situation so we can recheck this down the track.

What are the clinic opening hours?

The Clinic is generally open 7am to 8pm every weekday and Saturdays 7am-1pm. This means we have plenty of availability to run rehab sessions that fit into people's schedule.

Is this similar to Clinical Reformer Pilates?

For most people we use Pilates reformers as part of your exercise program - some will have more than others. This is based on what type of injury you have, it's severity and what stage you are at. We also take into account your preferences so can include more or less pilates in your program based on this. So for some it will closely resemble clinical pilates and others less so.

Can I still claim under private health extras?

Yes. Because all of our sessions are run by qualified physiotherapists you will be able to claim back on all sessions under your extras cover.

What equipment will I be using during these classes?

It really depends on your injury/situation. But our most commonly used equipment pieces are...

1. Pilates Reformer

2. Free weights

3. Flywheel trainer

4. Other Pilates Equipment

5. Mat based exercises

How long are the rehab sessions?

45 Minutes

How do the packages or rehab sessions work?

We sell rehab sessions in x10 pack for a 10% discount. We also allow people to pay as you go if they would prefer.

How long will I need to do rehab for?

Hard to answer as every person and injury is different. We generally find many people can get a resolution with 1 x block of 10x rehab sessions. However, for some it may be more.

How many regular 1:1 Physio consults will I need before starting the rehab groups?

Generally between 1-3, Unless your situation is quite complicated.

If you are more suited to 1:1 care this is also fine and we can proceed down a more traditional pathway.

What times are the rehab classes?

The rehab classes are custom booked at a time that suits you! Some more popular times may be unavailable as it is a first in best dressed approach.

What if I don't love the rehab sessions?

If you are not loving the sessions we can pivot to a more traditional model of care. If you really don't want to continue we are able to provide you a refund on any pre-bought sessions.

Will I see my assigned therapist for every rehab session?

If you are flexible with your times then yes, absolutely.

If you are rigid with your availability it may need to be split between two therapists.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

No referral from your doctor is required. However, we do accept Medicare Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) visits to help fund your sessions.

Do I need to get Xray's, MRI's or other imaging first?

No imaging is required to attend your Initial appointment. If our physio assessment reveals a need for more information they may refer you before starting your rehab pathway. We are happy to look at previous scans that you would like to bring in.
